About Melanie

A lifelong Floridian and Tampa Bay native, Melanie Griffin has spent her life serving our State and bettering the Tampa Bay community. Those who know her best know she is happiest when she is building up all those around her, including her husband Mike, son Maverick, and golden lab Molly. Most recently, she has served as the Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation since being appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in January 2022. In that role, she leads Florida’s regulation of more than 1.7 million licensees across more than 30 fields of industry.

Prior to her service to Florida, Melanie worked in private practice as a commercial litigation and employment law attorney. During her time at a prominent Florida corporate law firm, she served as the managing partner of the Tampa office. Beyond her legal career, Melanie was a small business owner and has continually served on numerous boards and committees supporting the Tampa Bay region.

A triple-graduate of Florida State University (Finance, MBA, JD), she can be found cheering on her Seminoles on Saturdays in the fall – or much closer to home, rooting for her husband’s beloved South Florida Bulls.
